MORNING ENTRY TIME MATH ACTIVITY

For the past two weeks someone from your group has recorded the daily morning entry times. You and your
group will be using this information for several different real-world math applications. Please read and follow
all directions carefully and produce quality work for full credit.

PART A:

Below record the daily times:

Week 1 Week 2

Mon: _________ Mon: _________
Tues: _________ Tues: _________
Wed: _________ Wed: _________
Thurs: ________ Thurs: ________
Fri: __________ Fri: __________

PART B:

Now, take this data and display it in a graph of some sort (you and your group must decide which display).
Refer to chapter 7-4 in your math textbook for examples of displays. Remember to think about WHAT it is you
are displaying AND which display best suits your need. Your group will get poster paper and markers and
rulers and other supplies from your teacher. YOU WILL BE ADDING MORE INFORMATION TO THIS
PAPER, SO DONT USE IT UP WITH YOUR GRAPH. PLAN ACCORDINGLY.

PART C:

Take the information from Part 1 and find the mean, median, mode, and range for each week. What is the mean
for each week? What is the median for each week? What is the mode for each week? What is the range for each
week? You may include this on the poster paper you used for your graph.

PART D:

After looking at your graph and your statistics, what can you tell me about the class entry times over the course
of two weeks? What day of the week was the best time? The worst time? You may include this information on
the poster paper you used for your graph.

PART E:

Once you have all of the above addressed, figure out how much time is spent getting ready for the day in 1
week; 1 month (assume no holidays); 1 semester (60 days); 1 school year (180 days). After analyzing this data,
discuss with your group members the outcomes and the implications. Can entry times be improved? How?
Write down your new found data and your groups thoughts.
