Introduction to Literature (High School and College Credit):


-I can develop skills in reading literature, from locating and recalling essential elements of a
specific work, to making inferences within and across texts, to critiquing and evaluating works.


-I can participate in intensive reading and discussion of literature that leads to the development of
reasonable interpretations of literary texts and support interpretations with evidence.


-I can provide literary elements, forms, and terms and guide students in applying them to aid
analysis in specific works of literature and multiple genres.


-I can place literary works in historical, social, and cultural contexts to enhance my learning.


-I can demonstrate informal and formal writing about literature.


-I can actively use academic library resources, such as subscription databases and reference
resources, to support interpretations of literature in oral and/or written assignments.


-I can examine the value of literature in our society and in my own life.


NOTE: In this course, various genres of literature are included, such as short story, poetry,
drama, and literary nonfiction.
