THE REAL DEAL An Observation of Students Perception of Talley Student Center

Edric Jazmin, Jermanie Jones, Junyan Zhou March 12, 2013 Research Aim The Goal for this survey was to gather the actual per- ception of Talley Student Center, from the students perspective. Students were asked the frequency of their visits to the site and their activites while there. In addition, they were asked to give responses to open ended questions providing unbiased answers. The goal was to gather subjective responses and perspectives. Location Figure 1: Talley Student Center
Methodology Each member distrubuted the survey online to friends and classmates. After two days of gathering information, the survey was closed and information was compiled. Findings Most participants were between 19 & 21 years of age (Figure 2). They visited the site between lunch and din- ner usually (Figure 3). Figure 2: Age Chart Figure 3: Time Chart Most of the participants looked to Talley Student Center as a Food Court. Meeting Place and Shortcut were second as seen in Figure 4. Figure 4: Perception of Place Students were also asked their favortie spots in Talley. Wolves Den, Wolfpack Subs, and the 1st & 2nd Floor lobbys were the favorites. Surprisingly, the rocking chairs on the old balcony and the fourth foor lobby were also on the list. The percentage of those who were exicted about the new student center were 87%. They were looking forward to the new eating option and study space that is to be provided. Conclusion Most students use the Student Center for food instead of activites and meeting. After seeing the results, NCSU should provide activites that engage students. Based on these results, students have made the site into a food court based on its afordances.
