Grading: Assignment of grades will adhere to the traditional 10-point system. In addition to the
scheduled exams, daily classroom performance, preparation, and attitude will be factored into the
final grade.

Note: Consistent attendance shows evidence of thirst for knowledge and respect for material
presented. Punctuality shows respect for peers and non-disruptive classroom order. These
factors will also be taken into consideration at final grade time. (Note: Remember your most
valuable team resource--each other!)

Apply critical thinking through problem solving
Stimulate thinking concerning the structure of music and analytical techniques
Gain knowledge of theoretical concepts for varied historical styles of music

Develop awareness of diverse ethical perspectives
Develop pedagogical knowledge of musical analysis, and an awareness of diverse
stylistic perspectives in the understanding of Music Theory

Course Specific Learning Outcomes
Gain knowledge of music from an historical/stylistic perspective
Develop a toolbox of varied techniques of musical analysis
Participate in class activities
Read assigned materials
Complete all assignments
Take notes during class
Complete all exams

Note: There will be 1 additional in-class writing assignment on the topic of diverse ethical
perspectives as applies to music. Although the assignment will not be figured into your
course grade, it will be used to ascertain your grasp of this concept in our course.
