Illnesses Effect on System (if applicable)
Diabetes Sickle Cell
Anemia
Heart Disease Urinary Tract
Infection
Cardiovascular

High blood
pressure and
high LDLs can
lead to a heart
attack and/or
possible death.

Decreased
blood supply or
plaque buildup
can also lead
to heart attack
or possible
death
Decreased
oxygen supply
to tissues and
organs can
lead to heart or
brain damage
or even
possible death
Heart is
weakened
because of the
strain from
heart disease
on the heart
Not really any
effect
Digestive

Type 1 =
pancrease
doesnt
produce insulin

Type 2 =
spleen can be
destroyed if
lifestyle
choices (ex.
Healthy eating
& exercise)
arent
controlled
Bilirubin
gallstones -
sickle cells die
in 20 days;
liver breaks
down the
bilirubin; extra
bilirubin can
become a
gallstone in the
gallbladder

(bilirubin forms
bile)

Nutrients wont
be absorbed
easily due to
reduced blood
flow
Blood clots can
take place
causing
necrosis in
digestive
organs ex.
Intestines

High LDLs
and plaque
buildup from
unhealthy
foods being
consumed can
lead to heart
disease
Not really any

flow gets
blocked or
reduced, it can
lead to
infections,
ulcers, and
illness

muscle can be
damaged and
result in

heart attack

and/or damage

Nervous

Unhealthy
nervous
system = can
lead to
diabetes,
which then can
cause nerve
damage
Certain
medications
used for sickle
cell can be
toxic = harming
the nervous
system
Heart disease
can lead to
stress which
senses danger
causing an
increase in
heart rate
Certain
illnesses that
take place in
the nervous
system can
lead can cause
UTIs
Respiratory

Leads to
breathing
problems but
can be handled
by proper diet
and exercise
When sickle
cells are
trapped, it
blocks the flow
of blood and
oxygen to the
lungs

Can make it
hard to breathe
Small colds
such as the
common cold
in winter can
lead to
difficulty of
breathing
Urinary

High levels of
glucose can
damage little
fibers from the
kidneys, which
can negatively
affect the
kidneys ability
to filter blood,
which can lead
to serious
issues
Sickled RBCs
can damage
the kidney
making it
difficult to filter
properly
If the blood
vessels that
supply blood
and oxygen
arent supplied
well, the
kidney
wouldnt be
able to function
well causing a
kidney failure
If the UTI is too
high, the
kidney can be
scarred, which
can lead to
kidney disease
or failure
