Morris reponds to the takeover of the Nenagh Municipal Area by the Anti Nenagh Alliance

The takeover last Thursday of the new Nenagh Municipal area by Fianna Fil Fine Gael and Labour
was a shocking display of greed by politicians who have firmly rejected the wishes of the Electorate
and a return to old politics.
Fianna Fil in their rush to get their hands on Power have facilitated three people who were rejected
by the people of Nenagh, in fact between them they only got 183 votes in the town , Fiona
Bonfield(32) Ger Darcy (103)and Phil Bugler (48) bypassed the top 3 vote getters in the area and in
doing that they are trying to deny the town of Nenagh an opportunity to get a chairperson for the 5
years.
One has the bear in mind that it was Labour and Fine Gael that closed down Nenagh Town Council
and it was galling that they would then reject the Nenagh System (in the old Nenagh Council
Chamber and while sitting under the names of Tom Ryan, Sally Gardiner, John Ryan , Noel Clifford
Nenagh Mayors who served the town with distinction), where the Chairman was directly elected by
the people in terms of where they came in the final poll on the day. The Nenagh version of D Hondt
served the people of Nenagh very well for over 50 years but the Anti Nenagh Allaince have made
their mark on the new Municipality and it was to give two fingers to the people of Nenagh. This of
course was not the first time that Fianna Fil have tried to change the Nenagh system . When I
topped the poll in 2004 they tried to get support from other parties to stop me becoming Mayor of
Nenagh but Labour rejected it of course that was when Labour stood for something but they now
stand for nothing.
Next years A G M will see another attempt to implement the Nenagh D Hondt system but this time I
will have the people of Nenagh firmly behind me. In this term I challenge the Anti Nenagh Alliance to
prove me wrong and deliver for Nenagh. I also challenge the Fianna Fail Labour Fine Gael pact to
release the details of their County Pact so that the scenes at the Thurles/ Templemore Municipal A G
M are not repeated and to give the people of Tipperary clarity on their undemocratic pact.
Yours sincerely Cllr. Samus Morris 14/06/14
