Cultural values that are applied in an environment can be seen from life habits that
has become a guide and a part of life can not be separated in attitude and behaviour in daily
life. Similarly, indigenous society life in Kuta village of Desa Karangpaningal Kecamatan
Tambaksari Kabupaten Ciamis which is represented in the tradition: building homes, forests
prohibition enforcement, respect for sacred places and ancestors, as well as in terms of the
implementation of traditional ceremonies and art held
Traditions of the noble worth has been inherent in Kuta village society, which makes
everyone in Kuta village so compassionate towards the surrounding nature. Excavation and
preservation of the local wisdom values as a unique heritage makes them as "the most
scientists know" about the environment.

Cultures grown in a society are strongly influenced by the state of nature which is
inhabited by the society as cultural producer. Environment influences culture and human
behavior as well. In connection with this, it is important to re-institutionalize local wisdom of
indigenous society, as it can help to protect and manage the environment.
This is an ethnographic qualitative research to describe the values of indigenous
cultures wisdom in the Kuta village. Data collection was conducted in the "nature setting" by
using participant observation and in-depth interview technique.
Formulation of the research results can be realized as a basic policy in environmental
protection and management. This is possible because the values of local wisdom in protecting
and managing the environment are rooted in beliefs or traditions (taboos, taboos, traditional
ceremonies). This research represents how the subject gains meaning understanding of the
surrounding environment, and how these meanings affect their behavior.
