FOR NORTHEAST PA

such as Towanda,

This Briefing applies to
the NWS Binghamton
Service Area only:
Hazards
Flash flood potential Thursday and Thursday
evening is the primary hazard.
Tropical moisture streaming northward from Arthur will
interact with a frontal boundary that stalls over New York
and Pennsylvania Thursday and Thursday night.
This front will be the focus for potentially very heavy rain
that could cause significant localized flash flooding.
The track of Tropical Storm Arthur will remain
offshore well east of central NY and northeast PA
so we are not expecting a widespread heavy
rainfall directly from Arthur.
Therefore no flooding is expected on our larger river
systems given the current projections.
Tropical Storm Arthur
Track

Impacts just in central NY
and Northeast PA

Flash Flood Potential
Timing
Showers and thunderstorms will
develop again across central NY and
northeast PA Thursday afternoon and
evening.
The focus area for the heaviest rain and
flash flood potential is uncertain at this
time but will be close to where the front
stalls.
All areas in the NWS Binghamton forecast
are at some risk for localized flash
flooding.
Stay tuned for further updates as we
hone in on the highest threat areas.

Summary

Thursday to Thursday Night biggest

Arthur is projected to remain well east
of our area and not directly impact us.

that will cause problems on our larger
rivers unless track of Arthur changes.
