CLASS LIMITS FOR FANS

The Air Movement and Control
Association International, Inc (AMCA)
has adopted a standard which defines
operating limits for the various classes
of centrifugal fans used in general
ventilation applications.

The standard uses limits based on
mean brakehorsepower per square foot
of outlet area, expressed in terms of
outlet velocity and static pressure.

When a fan is designated as meeting
the requirements of a particular class, as
defined by the standard, it must be
physically capable of operating safely at
any point inside the minimum
performance limits for that class.

To assist fan users and consulting
engineers, members of AMCAs
Centrifugal Fan Division have agreed on
a standard system of shading multirating
tables in catalogues which should
simplify selection of the appropriate fan
class for each application. Where the
new class limits are used in a catalogue,
the manufacturer will state that these
are in accordance with revised AMCA
Standard 99-2408-69.
