About this unit: This unit explores the concept of
information through the theme of eggs. Students will
learn about eggs and explore the life cycles of various
egg-lay creatures.

The students will use everyday specific language and
topic-specific vocabulary to discuss their observations and
understandings of life cycles and create texts that include
their explanations of the life cycle and reports on egg-
laying creatures, based on what they have observed and
learnt. They will participate in group and class discussions
and make presentations of their findings. They will create
texts that show how images support the meaning of the
texts.
Unit duration

Term 2: 5 weeks Term 3: 2-3 weeks
Information/Explanation Literature study
Final Project: Information Report on an egg-laying animal
The students research the animal of their choice in small groups and
write an information report on this animal. Allow enough time for
them to research from one or two sources. The emphasis will be on
organising the information into the relevant paragraph and using
appropriate technical language rather than extensive and
comprehensive knowledge about the animal. The completed
information reports could be in hard copy for a book, or as posters or
charts or as a PowerPoint or other computer presentation
