Aits Auvocacy
Matsumoto, Karen - Arts Advocacy
Ny mom, Alison, was the auuience foi my ieheaisal foi my Aits Auvocacy
piesentation. Ny mom is one of my biggest suppoiteis. She uoes not have much expeiience
in Euucation oi Ait. She woiks as an Account Cleik foi the State of Bawaii. Theiefoie, since
the puipose of my piesentation is to piomote Aits, I thought I coulu piactice my peisuasion
skills with hei.
She enjoyeu the title; she thought it was veiy fitting. When we waimeu up with
chaiaues, she ietoiteu, "What uoes chaiaues have to uo with Ait." "Well," I began to
explain, "chaiaues is peifoiming aits, anu it helps us communicate using bouy language." I
think she hau a biain fait; she uiu not iealize the connection between chaiaues anu aits.
She showeu me hei favoiite hobby. She maicheu in place anu huffeu anu puffeu.
"Walking." I askeu. "Tiy again," my mom ueclaieu. "BIKINu!" I yelleu. She confiimeu that I
was iight with a nou. I announceu, "I thought it was this," as I laiu uown anu shut my eyes.
We both began to laugh out louu. Ny mom sleeps often.
I continueu thiough the piesentation, explaining to hei how the uiffeient aspects
weie auuiesseu in the piocess of the Aits. She shaieu, "I thinks that music ieally helps with
ietaining infoimation anu motivating stuuents." Peisonally, I think she is a bit biaseu,
because she kept mentioning music.
As we continueu, she began to iealize the message I was tiying to convey. The Aits
has an impact on leaining in moie complex ways than ietaining infoimation. Ny mom
pioclaimeu, "They will use these |pioblem solvingj skills when they have a job, anu when
they aie oluei." "Exactly!" I confiimeu.
To extenu hei awaieness of Ait in the classioom, Satuiuay night, which is tonight,
we will be going to Ait Night. Eveiy fiist Satuiuay of the month, theie is an Ait Night in
Matsumoto, Karen - Arts Advocacy
Kapa'a town. The fiie uanceis iepiesent uance anu uiama. The banus aie musical aitists.
The jeweliy makeis anu painteis aie visual aitists. I woulu like to shaie with hei how we
aie utilizing highei leaining oiuei skills by simply being a pait of the ciowu. Auuitionally,
as a teachei, I think it woulu benefit me to see how I coulu implement some of the Aits that
I see tonight into my classioom, to expeiience with my stuuents.
