Purpose: This test will determine which words the
student needs to learn to spell correctly.

Belief: This formative assessment is intended to
individualize the spelling test to meet the
competency level of each student. This allows the
student to be challenged on an individualized pace.
Who: The students will benefit from the pretest
because it helps them know where they stand with
the words as well as practicing their test taking
skills.
When: Students will take a Spelling pretest each
Friday and there will be ten vocabulary words on
the test. The pretest will determine the level for
each student. The tests will be graded and sent
home with the student with a list of the weeks
spelling words.
What: The vocabulary words the student misspelled
will be circled or highlighted on the list to be
studied for the final test. Then there will be a list
of ten challenge words. Based on the number of
vocabulary words the individual student spelled
correctly, they will have an equal number of
challenge words to replace the vocabulary words.
All the students will have one bonus word for extra
credit.

Bonus: insect

Purpose: This test will determine if the student has
learned to spell the words correctly.

Beliefs: Students are challenged in the level of
competency in spelling and building their
vocabulary for future academic work. Students
have the opportunity to achieve success with their
individualized/custom spelling test.
Who: The student will benefit from the individual
test because they are working to improve their own
competency and vocabulary.

When: The final test will be on Thursday and will be
for a grade.
What: Students will have their individualized list of
vocabulary and challenge words to be studied
during the week. The final spelling test will be over
the ten words the student has been assigned plus
the bonus word. Each student will receive a
customized test sheet so they know which words
they will need to spell.
