Introduction

This test is done to determine the flash point and the fire point of asphaltic bitumen and
blown type bitumen as per ls:1209-1978.The principle behind this test is
Flash point
-The flash point of a material is the lowest temperature at which the application of the
test flame causes the apours from the material to momentarily catch fire in the form of
a flash under specified condition of the test
Fire point
-The fire point is the lowest temperature at which the application of the test flame is
cause the material top i!nite and burn at least for " seconds under specified conditions
of the test.

Objective
This e(periment is to obtain the temperature leel of the asphalt materials for flash point
and fire point.This is to %now its optimum temperature leel.The flash point of cutbac%
asphalt is !enerally determine by use of a Ta!liabue open cup apparatus )whereas the
'leeland open cup is used for flashpoint fetermined on other asphaltic materials
