Key Verse: 33
1. What is the problem with earthly treasures (19)? Why are treasures in
heaven better (20; 1 Jn. 2:17; 1 Tim. 6:18,19)? What does our heart have to do
with treasures (21)?
Earthly treasures are never good enough and do not make one truly happy.
Furthermore, they can be stolen or can be damaged. The treasures in heaven
are what make man truly happy.
2. What is the function of the eye (22,23)? Why is it important to see the
world with spiritual eyes and worship God only (24; Col. 3:5)?
The eye is the lamp of the soul. You cannot have two masters – either you are
loyal to God or you are loyal to your earthly desires (money).
3. What does Jesus tell us not to worry about (25)? How does nature show
the evidence of God's care (26)? Is there any practical benefit of worrying (27)?
Jesus tells us to not worry about everyday life. Birds are given as an example of
God’s care. There is not benefit of worry.
4. How can we not worry about these things (28-30; Php. 4:6,7)? (Note the
lesson Abraham learned in Genesis 22:14.)
Jesus says that Pagans are concerned with food and clothes. As children of
God, we should not worry about those things. Worry is caused by having little
faith.
6. What is God's command for his people (33a)? What is God's precious
promise (33b)? How does accepting this promise set us free from a life of
anxiety?
7. What wisdom does he give us for dealing with real, day-to-day problems
(34; compare to Romans 5:3).
Don’t worry about the future. Worry about now and what you can do right now to give
glory to God. Troubles are good for us for they help us to endure.
