Literature, irrespective of written or oral represents the voices of the people those are oppressed. But the politics of History represents the power as self and ignore the people as others.Knowingly or unknowing, common people identify them selves with the symbols/ relics of history and feel proud of it.
Representation of differences of human culture is thus distorted due to politics of the powerful.Knowing that the subjugated history is not found in those texts , people love to be identified with it.
This article discuss the discourse on how literature as marker of protest expressed of oppressors across the ages. It is felt that the historical consciousness of future generation is still overshadowed by the history of the powerful and not of the people as revealed in the course books of history. Who represents the history of people in what ideals is a major question if at all we believe that we live in an era of human freedom.
The summary of the essay is that , though we live in a world of cultural democracy, our historical consciousness is still not free from the colonial mind set, for which we still ignore the history of the marginalized and feel happy with the symbols of past history which was represented and written for the powerful only . This is the half truth of my discourse.
