Small group curriculum for grades K-2

Overall Objective: he purpose of this small group curriculum is to teach
positi0e coping strategies for dealing with difficult social situations% Any
student could benefit from these lessons1 but especially students who may
ha0e been 0ictims of bullying1 relational aggression1 or peer pressure in
pre0ious situations% he group will be di0ided into grades K-2 and --' to
facilitate de0elopmentally appropriate discussions%
Time Line: he group will meet for a total of ( times% 2ach meeting will
ha0e a theme based on the ricia !urin boo3% 4roup meetings will ta3e place
wee3ly for .' minutes during the school day% All efforts will be made to
meet when students are not e5pected in academic chats%
Materials: Students will need household materials for some of the group
meetings% A list of materials will be sent home with the permission slip for
students and parents to begin to gather%
Outcomes: By the end of the group meetings1 students will be able to
identify problematic social situations% hey will ha0e ac6uired the proper
mechanisms and s3ills to cope with these social situations% An e5tension of
this would be to encourage students to teach their friends the coping s3ills
they ha0e learned% 7utcomes will be measured by pre-and post-group data1
which will be collected prior to the beginning of group instruction and
following the last group meeting%
