Ferris State University nursing programs core curriculum is based upon theories.

To be
able to meet this outcome, students must demonstrate from work in their professional sequence
the ability to integrate theories and knowledge from arts, humanities, sciences, to develop a
foundation for nursing practice. Kolcabas Theory of Comfort paper was one way that I was
able to demonstrate my understanding of how to integrate theory into the nursing practice. This
paper examines and critiques how her theory integrates a framework for patient assessment and
describes how clinical practitioners use this theory in nursing practice. In the evidence based
paper example and by developing a brochure on Alzheimers I was able to demonstrate how to
integrate science and theory into the nursing practice. I was able to use the information I learned
from doing these assignments in the clinical setting when providing care to patients. While
completing he evidenced based practice paper I was able to understand that medications, like
how aspirin can have different effects on women and men. I was also able to integrate the
information I learned about Alzheimers disease in explaining the difference between early and
late onset to a patient and their family while at clinical.
These assignments provided me with understanding how nurses can use theories in their
nursing practices. Nursing is ever changing and through research, education, and perseverance I
can use the frameworks that nursing theorists have provided to deliver quality and safe care to
my patients.
