Introductions We each introduced ourselves for any newmembers/visitors
Pain Study Regina met with some Pain Champion members to explain howto do the
interviews and to do some orientations.
Managers with nurses on light duty
should contact Regina if they are
interested in doing audits
Empirical Outcomes
Audits Janna reviewed the handout Percentage of Reassessments. Also she asked
howwe would feel about scoring our own audits. She passed around a
handout on Scoring PainAudits.
She noted that sometimes a person
can have their pain reassessed
but still have a high pain score
which is not reflected in the audit
results. All Units will do anAudit
inApril as it is the quarterly audit.
NewKnowledge
Patient Satisfaction/Comfort
Function Goal
The biggest area that needs improvement is Nursing communication and
Physician communication. We did score high on Courtesy. Amy Searls led
a discussion on what we can do to improve scores. Barb passed around an
article on howto Teach Patients and Their Families Howto Use a Pain
Rating Scale. Tip Sheets on updates to the pain-comfort Function Goal
were provided for all. This will go into effect onApril 22. Training for
Avatar is onApril 16.
Our presence with patients help
themknowwe are sincere and care
about their pain. Sitting at the
bedside to have a dialogue will
help build a relationship with them.
Some suggestions for improving
scores would be to use White
Boards for communicating , non
pharm interventions. Create and
use comfort carts. Use resources
fromVolunteers office.
