To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is written on behalf of Lauren Henson. It is a pleasure to write this recommendation
for her. Lauren was a guest teacher at Cook Elementary for most of the last marking period in a
second grade classroom. The teacher went out on maternity leave, and Lauren stepped into this
position with great confidence and competence. She quickly got to know her students and the
staff and culture of the building. Lauren used excellent, positive classroom management skills
to create a smooth transition for our students. She immediately began teaming with grade level
teachers to do lesson planning as well as to plan for special end of the year activities for her
students. Lauren actively reached out to parents as part of the transition process.

Lauren was able to continue a work shop approach for math, reading and writing in the
classroom, including conducting guided reading lessons and doing assessments such as the
DRA, which are used in our district. She also participated in the end-of-year data day, sharing
student progress and concerns in order to plan for next years placement and possible
intervention supports.

It is safe to say that in a very short time Lauren won the confidence of students, staff and
parents. It quickly became clear that she is smart, eager to learn and collaborate, has great
management skills, a positive attitude, and a very strong work ethic (she voluntarily put in many
extra hours to prepare lessons and make sure she and the classroom were ready for each day, as
well as spent lunch periods conferring and planning with the grade level team).
I recommend her for your consideration with full confidence she will be an asset to any school
community. I wish we had an opening in our building for her! It is not often that a newly
minted teacher is so ready for her own classroom; Lauren seems to be that rare, new teacher. I
recommend her for your consideration with no reservations.

Sincerely,

Doris Goetz
