Biscayne Bay Pilots found themselves in the right place at the right time while awaiting a ships approach at approximately 0130 on June 7, 2014. En route to board a ship, Captain Bronson Stubbs noticed a signal of red flares coming from a capsizing recreational craft near the Miami Sea Buoy. After the pilot boat operator skillfully maneuvered over to the area, Captain Stubbs was able to rescue the three people, who had not been wearing life jackets, out of the water and into the pilot boat. About 15 minutes after the pilots retrieved the three people from the water using life rings, the U.S. Coast Guard arrived to transfer them.
