Course Description The CCGPS Algebra Support Course is designed to prepare students for the CCGPS Algebra Course they will take during second semester. The CCGPS Algebra Course is the first in a sequence of secondary mathematics courses designed to ensure that students are college and work ready. Instruction and assessment will include the appropriate use of manipulatives and technology. Topics will be represented in multiple ways, such as concrete/pictorial, verbal/written, numeric/data-based, graphical, and symbolic. Concepts will be introduced and used, where appropriate, in the context of real phenomena. This course will require daily diligence by students on assignments and in class performance tasks.
Grading Categories: This is a semester course and will be weighted as such.
Standards 1 - Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. 2 - Reason abstractly and quantitatively. 3 - Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. 4 - Model with mathematics. 5 - Use appropriate tools strategically. 6 - Attend to precision. 7 - Look for and make use of structure. 8 - Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. 9 - Reason quantitatively and use units to solve problems. 10 - Interpret the structure of expressions. 11 - Create equations that describe numbers or relationships. 12 - Understand solving equations as a process of reasoning and explain the reasoning. 13 - Solve equations and inequalities in one variable.

Exercise respect and courtesy for others at all times. 2. Leave all food and drinks in your locker (water is fine) we want a clean, pest-free, environment. 3. Arrive with all necessary tools for learning. 4. Raise your hand for permission to speak or to leave your seat. 5. Remain actively involved in class until dismissed by the teacher (including taking notes or working on assignments) 6. All cell phones or similar electronic devices are to be turned OFF or on silent during the school day, except during breakfast or lunch. Any cell phone or similar electronic device that comes to my attention will be taken up. Refer to the student handbook for cell phone rules and consequences. 7. Dress appropriately; Refer to the student handbook for the dress code. 8. Observe all other school rules. If You Choose to Break a Rule: We will be using the three-part referral procedure if needed. First Infraction: Warning/ Phone call home Second Infraction: Phone call home and 30 minute detention Third Infraction: Administrative referral *Severe disruption (cursing, skipping class, etc.) = immediate administrative referral and phone call home. Academic Expectations 1. Supplies must be brought to class every day. 2. Calculator: Check with your teacher for the recommended calculator 3. Assignments will be checked on a regular basis for completion and accuracy. 4. NO credit may be given for late daily assignments. 5. All work must be shown in order to receive any credit. 6. Label all papers with name, block, and date. Quizzes and Tests Test dates will be announced in advance and will be cumulative. Quizzes may be announced or unannounced. ** A student who pulls out a cell phone or IPod during a quiz or test will receive a 0%. Make-up Work 1. You are responsible for making up all work missed when absent. 2. Any student that is absent must turn in all previous assigned work the day he/she returns. 3. Make-up work must be turned in as specified in your student handbook. 4. You must schedule a time before or after school to make up a missed test. All missed tests must be made up within one week of the test date. It is the students responsibility to schedule a make-up test with the teacher. Extra Help Extra help is available before and after school for those who exhibit a positive attitude in class. Check with your teacher for times and Spartan Academy information.
