STARTING PROCEDURE
WESTFALIA OIL SEPARATOR

Prestart checks
Check electrical supplies are on to both oil separator and PLC panel.
Check at least there is an indication of oil in the oil separator gearbox .( use CLP 100 to top up)
Check drive belts fitted using top sight glass.
Check for any oil leaks around oil separator.
Valves operation
1.Open oil supply valves to Feed pump (3 isolating v/vs on suction)
2.Open oil heater outlet valve (10-7-006)
3.Open oil circulating valve (12-7-004)
4.Open sealing water main supply v/v. (temporally being supplied from ACW system)
5.Open sealing water isolating v/v inlet to solenoid (19-7-001)
Feed Pump starting
1.Start Feed Pump using the local panel start buttons. (1. Vacuum suction gauge should read 2brs &
pump disch press 1.6br. 2.oil will start circulating bypassing the separator)
Switching on of oil heaters.
1.Switch on the oil heaters by selecting them to auto position. (3 heaters in total)
2.Check oil temperature setting at 55 deg celc & if not adjust.
3.Wait till heater outlet oil temperature reaches 50 deg celc.(heaters cut in & out temperatures are
56, 58 &60 deg cl)
Starting of oil separator
1.Start oil separator on local panel.( start up time run down is 180 sec & oil circulation will change
automatically from recirc to separator via 3 way changeover v/v.)
2.Check for any oil leaks around separator.
3.Push the PRO.ON button on control panel.( start up programme for seal water solenoid v/v
opening.oil 3 way change over v/v opens to separator from recirc& takes 30 sec)
4.Set the back pressure to 1.6brs using back pressure v/v 12-7-002 .
5.Check that there is no oil coming from the effluent water discharge.( outside oil room.)
6.Check oil separator current reading 5.8amps to 6 amps.
Oil separator shutdown
1. Push PRO.OFF on the control panel
2. Switch heaters to off position
3. Push stop button on panel to stop oil separator
4. Push stop button to stop oil Feed pump.
5. Observe oil Feed pump will run for 300 sec to bring down oil temperature.
