Dear Students and Parents,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Career Development. I am excited about the upcoming
semester and I look forward to working with you.

DEPARTMENT PHILOSOPHY:
The philosophy of Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) program is to work
collaboratively with business and community partners to provide opportunities for all students to develop
technical, academic, and employability skills which prepare them to pursue their chosen career as
productive citizens and lifelong learners.

Using project-based instruction, students are introduced to the principles of business in the 21st century
while refreshing their keyboarding skills. This course should also help students to use computers
effectively in their lives, thus providing a connection of computer science and business careers.

The goal of this course is to provide all middle school students with an introduction to the principles of
computer science, basic keyboarding skills, Internet safety and usage, and computer applications. Students
will explore how personality traits and personal values align with career choices and will develop a career
plan. Personal, professional, and ethical standards of behavior for the workplace will be examined and
reinforced in the classroom.

REQUIRED MATERIALS/SUPPLIES:
1 Class Notebook or Folder with notebook paper
Flash Drive / Email / Google Drive - for saving digital files
Pen or Pencil
Headphones / Earbuds (Your teacher will remind you when to bring headphones to class)

CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS:
1. Respect and be supportive of yourself, your teacher and your classmates.
2. Come prepared for class every day.
3. Do your best work and always try to improve.
4. Use the time I give you in class wisely.
5. Ask questions if you do not understand something.
6. Follow all school rules. *no eating, no cell phones, no electronic devices, etc*
7. Listen for and adhere to all directions the first time they are given.
8. Help to maintain a clean school by disposing of all trash in the proper receptacle.

BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION PROCEDURE:
1. Student - Teacher conference
2. Phone call home to Parent / Guardian
3. Referral Submitted to Administration
4. Conference with Student, Parent, and Teacher

POLICY FOR LATE ASSIGNMENTS:
Students are expected to complete all assignments in the allotted time. If a student is
unable to complete the work by the time it is due, that student must confidence with the
teacher in order to come up with a plan for completing the work. Assignments handed in
late will be penalized accordingly.

MAKE-UP WORK POLICY:
IT IS THE STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY TO OBTAIN AND COMPLETE MAKE-UP
WORK. Students must come to speak with the teacher in order to get the missing
assignment and make a plan for completing the missing work.

All students will be provided the opportunity to make up missed assignments, regardless of
the reason for absences. Make-up work will NOT be worked on during valuable class time.

MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUCCESS POLICY:
If a student turns in an assignment that receives a failing mark, the student has the
opportunity to redo the assignment. Exclusions may apply as decided at the discretion of
the instructor. The student must conference with the teacher within one week after
receiving the failing grade. After conferencing with the instructor, the assignment will be
given back to the student to redo. The assignment must be completed and returned within
one week after the conference. It is the students responsibility to take advantage of the
redo policy. At the end of 2 weeks, students will no longer have the option to redo
assignments.
