What is Math III?
Math III follows the successful
completion of Math I and Math II. You
should expect to put forth a
considerable effort in this course--it
will be challenging, but rewarding.

Our main topics will include algebraic
simplifying skills, properties of
functions, quadratic functions,
polynomials, rational functions,
exponential and logarithmic
functions, statistics, triangles and
quadrilaterals, circular geometry, unit
circle trigonometry, and
systems of equations.

If at any point you do not feel like you
have the pre-requisite skills necessary
to keep up with the course material,
please seek help IMMEDIATELY! I will
be happy to help you but you cannot
allow yourself to fall behind.

I can't wait to see all of you become
creative problem solvers!

The only limitations are those you
place on yourself and those you
allow other people to place on you.

What is AFM?
Advanced Functions and Modeling
is a fourth level course that follows
successful completion of Math I, II,
and III. You should expect to put forth a
considerable effort in this course--it
will be challenging, but rewarding.

The major topics covered include:
counting techniques, probability,
statistics, exponential and logarithmic
functions, basic trigonometry, the unit
circle, solving triangles with
trigonometry, graphing trigonometric
functions, and piecewise and power
functions.

This is a challenging course that will
rely on skills you have learned in
previous courses. If at any point you
do not feel like you have the pre-
requisite skills necessary to keep up
with the course material, please seek
help IMMEDIATELY! I will be happy to

Learning Targets:
Your Skills grade will be calculated
based on the number of learning
targets you have consistently
demonstrated. Learning targets are
written based on the NC Common
Core Standards for this course.
Assessments will be given at the end of each
unit to assess you learning. Typically the
assessments will be formal tests involving
mostly open ended questions. Other times
assessments will be given in the form of
project or writing assignments.

Cumulative Tests will be given periodically.
You should be reviewing constantly so that
you will not have to cram to study for these
tests.
Your notebooks will be graded
according to a rubric that will be
provided for you prior to grading.

Homework will be graded using our
homework calendar. Homework may
be graded as often as once a week.

Homework
You should expect to have homework at least
several times a week. Homework will take on
average between 30 min to 1.5 hours.
Homework should be completed before
coming to class. Copying assignments will
not be tolerated. Homework is intended to
show you where you need help before we
move on to new topics. Please come to me
with any questions you have ASAP.
Group work will be your primary method of
learning during class time. You will be
expected to work positively and
productively in your assigned group. Groups
may change based on activities, topics, etc.
Please be flexible and have a good attitude
and come prepared to help your classmates
learn.
