Tests/Projects/Essays: This course strives to prepare you for the AP Spanish Language course and
most importantly, provide you with the tools to communicate effectively (both written and orally)
with fluent Spanish speakers (nationally and internationally). The course is divided into cultural units
that focus on Spanish speaking countries around the world. You will further your understanding and
skills in the language through contextual practice. Your major evaluations will be in the form of
essays, group projects, and grammar/vocabulary exams. Be prepared to collaborate often, embrace
new cultures, speak in Spanish, and have an open mind!

In-Class Assignments/HW/Quizzes: Your homework consists of individual/collaborative projects,
writing tasks, reading comprehension assignments, grammar and vocabulary practice. Homework is
assigned 3-4 times per week and provides you the opportunity to practice or apply the concepts
learned in class.
*For Typed Assignments: Use Times New Roman (or an equivalent font), Size 12 pt or less. Double
space your work and limit your margins to 1 inch. Computers and printers are made available to students in the
library after school in the case that yours malfunctions.

Warm-Ups (Calentamientos): Your organized notebook contains your daily warm-ups. A typical
calentamiento may review previously learned concepts or reflect on the unit themes. There is at
least one notebook check during the semester worth 100 points to assess the quality of your daily
warm-ups. You will be asked to show 10 randomly selected calentamientos from the semester. Each
warm-up must display the appropriate date and number. In the event of an excused absence, you are
expected to complete your missing warm-ups within a reasonable period of time, otherwise you will
receive zero credit on the warm-ups that you missed in your absence.

Final Exam: Your final exam is a cumulative grammar and vocabulary fill-in exam (covering skills
from the beginning of the year). The final may also include a listening comprehension section, an in
class writing composition or oral examination.

HOMEWORK
In order to receive full credit, your homework must be absolutely complete by the sound of the bell.

LATE WORK
Upon return from an excused absence, it is your responsibility to check for missing assignments.
Check the class website for missed warm-ups, notes, and homework. Check with the teacher during
Tutorial. You will have the same amount of days absent to make up the work. Otherwise, I will NOT
accept late work! Too many absences will result in a drop of your overall grade.

CHEATING / PLAGIARISM
Any form of plagiarism will not be tolerated. This may come in the form of copying another students
work, allowing a student to copy your work, using entire sentences or phrases from online translators
in your work, etc. Students who participate in cheating will receive zero credit on the assignment.

RULES AND PROCEDURES

1. WGHS TARDY POLICY: You must be in the classroom, seated in your assigned seat at the sound of
the bell. Otherwise, you are Tardy, locked out of the classroom and must report to the cafeteria. You
will not be allowed back to the classroom that day. A Tardy can equal an unexcused absence;
therefore, the student may make up missing assignments at the discretion of the teacher.

2. FOOD/BEVERAGES: To avoid vermin and insect infestation, I ask that you please not eat in the
classroom. This is a professional environment and should be treated as such. Water is acceptable.

3. ELECTRONIC DEVICES: Turn off all cell phones, iPods, and other electronic devices before
entering the classroom. Please consider this your first and only warning.
First offense: Returned to you at the end of the day
Further offenses: I will speak with your parent/guardian to discuss the matter and decide when the
confiscated item will be returned to you.

4. BATHROOM: I will grant you two passes per semester. These passes allow you to go to the
bathroom, nurse, or office(s). Any additional passes I write will result in a 5 min. meeting after school
to make up the lost time. This is also the case with lost passes. Passes turned in at the end of the
semester will grant you extra credit on the Final Exam.

5. RESPECT: Please respect your surroundings, your classmates, and your teacher. Practice the use of
appropriate, academic language, and your Spanish! I work hard to maintain a clean, orderly, and safe
environment for you and expect you to treat my classroom with great care.
