Text: Intermediate Algebra, by Elayn Martin-Gay; 6
th
Edition (E-text comes with the software access code)

Software: MyMathLab computer homework and quizzes will be assigned for a grade.
Course policies for Online MyMathLab HW & QUIZ assignments:
1. HW and QUIZ assignments have an unlimited number of attempts and are due on specific dates at 6am.
2. HW has no time limit but there is a 45 minute time limit on every QUIZ.
3. HW questions completed after the due dates have a 50% penalty.
4. A QUIZ cannot be taken after the due date; a zero will be given for any QUIZ not attempted.
5. At the end of the term the two lowest HW scores and the two lowest QUIZ scores will be dropped.
6. Your Diagnostic Test and Study Plan will count as a 100% HW grade in MML (MyMathLab).

*You need to complete the Diagnostic Test before the second day of class and at least complete 15 out of 20 mastery points in your Study Plan by
August 29th or you will be required to go to the ASC lab and work with a tutor until this is complete.*

**It is reasonable to expect to spend up to 12 hours a week completing homework and quizzes outside of class time.

Course Description: Topics include solving linear, quadratic, rational, and radical equations and inequalities, operations on
polynomials including factoring, exponents, rational expressions and radical expressions, and graphs of linear equations in two
variables.

Content: We will cover topics from Chapters 2 - 8. The final exam will be comprehensive.

Proposed test content: The specific sections covered for each Module is listed on the student homework calendar. (I may change a
few sections during the semester.)

Test 1 - Modules 1 and 2
Test 2 - Modules 3, 4 and 5
Test 3 - Modules 6 and 7
Test 4 - Modules 8 and 9
Final Exam - All 10 Modules (comprehensive) .

Calculators: You will be loaned a TI30X scientific calculator to borrow for each test. On test days, you cannot use your personal
calculator. (Graphing calculators are not allowed.) Even though some have built-in calculators, cell phones and other electronic
devices cannot be used at all during tests and need to be turned off before the test begins. Calculators which are algebraic
manipulators are not allowed.

Grades: The final grade is: MyMathLab Homework 10% , MyMathLab Quizzes 14%, Four Tests 14% each (total of 56%),
Cumulative Final Exam 14%, and Attendance/participation 6%. Each student will receive 2 pts per day for attendance and will
receive an additional 2 pts per day for participating in class, completing classroom tasks, and other assigned classroom activities for
the 25 days of class. The attendance/participation points will total for your total attendance/participation grade.

A - 90 - 100 I - An incomplete can be given if your grade is at least a C and
B - 80 - 89 for some good reason you are unable to complete the course.
C - 70 - 79
D - 60 - 69 W - If you withdraw from the course, you must do this on or before
F - 0 - 59 Thursday, November 6, 2014.

Attendance: Everyone is expected to be present, on time, and prepared for each class meeting. If you miss class for any reason, you
will not receive the 4 pts for attendance and participation on that day.

*** WN - attendance for the first days will be demonstrated by taking the Diagnostic Exam AND working on the Study Plan. If you do not
complete the diagnostic exam and work on your study plan by the deadline of August 29th, your non-attendance will be reported to the
Registrar and Financial Aide Offices, and you will be removed from this course without a refund.***

Make-up Tests: If you miss one test and have a valid reason for your absence, you will be given a cumulative make-up test at the end
of the semester. You must contact me before the class meets again in order to be eligible to take the make-up. If you miss a second
exam for any reason, you will be given a zero.

Cheating/plagiarism: You will receive a grade of zero and/or will be taken before the Academic Review Board for possible
dismissal from school.

Students with Disabilities: In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, students requiring special
accommodation(s) due to a disability must register with Educational Services Division / Student Disability Services office
in order to receive eligible services. These offices are located in W-143 on the main campus or you may call Rhoda Brant
at (772) 462-7782 or Terry Valencia at (772) 462-7808. Students with documented disabilities may also be eligible for
additional academic services through Student Support Services (SSS) located in J-101 on the main campus.

Office Hours: My office hours are posted on the door at A 115 and on the Bulletin Board in A 130. Also, office hours are
available by appointment.
