A MESSAGE FROM LIZ WEIR

I hope you all received the yellow newsletter with the good news regarding site sharing and
buses for 2015.

Last week the Merger Board, along with the senior staff from each of the three schools,
went out on our first 'Insight and Inspiration' trip to local schools with new buildings. We
visited Pegasus, Clarkville and Woolston schools to see how the design of their learning
spaces impacts on the teaching and learning that is happening. This information will guide us
in the design of our new school. We are delighted to be working with John Sofo, from ASC
Architects. John is very experienced in school design and we are confident he will create
something unique and fabulous for Rwhiti School.

I will be at North New Brighton between 8.30 and 9.30 each Friday morning for the rest of
this month if you would like to pop in and have a chat. Alternatively, you can email me to
make an appointment. Please note the change to my email address - this one will be much
easier to remember. principal@rawhiti.school.nz

NORTH NEW BRIGHTON SCHOOL BOOK 1916-2014

We continue to collect stories from past and present pupils for our book celebrating 98
years of North New Brighton School.

Did you come to North New Brighton School? Maybe your neighbour, grandparents or
parents did? We are looking for past pupils who may like to contribute a memory to be
published. If you are interested please put your thoughts in writing and either email to
school or drop in to the office.

Each week we will post a photo on Facebook from days gone by. You may remember the
event or someone in the photo. We are keen to hear from you if you do.

KEEP UP TO DATE

We regularly update our website and Facebook pages so check these out on a regular basis
to keep up to date with whats going on around school.

KIDSCAN SHOES

Some of the KidsCan Shoes, that we ordered, arrived last week, just in time for the wet
weather that arrived the day after.

KidsCan are very sorry that they are unable to
fulfil our full order, with children in sizes 2, 3 and 4
being unable to be supplied. KidsCan have distributed
90000 shoes throughout New Zealand, and are unable
to source anymore this year. They are working very hard
to find a new distributor for 2015. Thanks KidsCan,
you do a wonderful job of supporting our families.

ACCOMODATION

Paul, our caretaker, is looking for some local accommodation, two three bedrooms, garage
to rent from late September for approximately 30 weeks.

If you know of anyone who can help, please call him 021 0462 885.

DISSOLVING EXPLANATION

In my essay of the week I will give you my explanation of what dissolving is.

Dissolving is when a solute, like Milo, mixes into a liquid, like water. Once this happens it
becomes a solution and if something is insoluble it will not mix into a liquid.

An example of a soluble substance is sugar, it is soluble and will dissolve into liquid. Salt is
another soluble substance and will dissolve into liquid. Another example is coffee, and will
also dissolve into liquid. One more example is Raro, which also dissolves into liquid.

One example of an insoluble substance is paper. It will not dissolve into water. Another
example is sand. Instead of mixing with the water it will sink to the bottom. Oil is also an
insoluble substance and instead of mixing with a liquid like water it will float to the top
because its lighter.

Dissolving on a molecular level is when the molecules of a soluble fit into the gaps between
the molecules of a liquid like water and it becomes a solution. But if too much of a soluble is
added to a liquid and there is no more room between the liquids molecules it will no longer
dissolve.

THE TERRIBLE TECHNO TURN-OFF

Instead of using technology I would play with my
mates, we would go swimming at Jelly Park and
go on a bike ride through bottle lake forest.

Then me and my mates would get some money and
buy bands and make some loom bands. After
that I would go on a bike ride to my mums house
and play with my puppy.

Then go to the Warehouse with the money and buy
more bands and try to make 3 million bands .
It would be a challenge against Yee and Bing
because they never watch TV, they dont have a
computer, they dont have to try to win.

So it would be a long week making loom bands and
watching people on technology. It would be a
challenge not knowing what the mystery prize was!

Plus if I lost I would be nice to the person who won.

TITANIC
The Titanic was the largest boat afloat and
known to be the safest boat ever to be
made. The boat was sent off on April 10th
1912. The sky was clear and there was not a
cloud to be seen. The Titanic was built to
look beautiful and Im sure it was.
The original number of lifeboats was 32 but
they cut it down to 12 boats leaving only
20.This was because they thought it would
be too cluttered or to crowded on deck.
On April 14 / 15 1912 the Titanic had
received several ice warnings during the
afternoon. The captain maintained speed.
Some crew members were asked to watch
over the sea for giant icebergs. The mens
names were Murdoch, Boxhall and Moody.
At 11:40pm the Titanic collided with an
iceberg which ripped open the ship. The
water flooded all six compartments and the
Titanic sank an hour later - or two at the
most.
The number of people rescued amounted to
713. 1516 lives were lost in the Titanic.

By Kyle
TITANIC
It was 11.50 when the ship hit an ice
berg and made a hole in the ship.
The people did not know that the
ship had a hole in it. Water started
to come in.
The ship broke into two pieces and
sank. It was very sad because those
people were going on a holiday and
they died.
