C()RSE *ESCRI+TI(,: The purpose of this course is to formalize and extend the mathematics that
students learned in middle school. Students will deepen and extend their understanding of linear and
exponential relationships by contrasting them with each other and by applying linear models to data that
exhibits a linear trend. Students will engage in methods by analyzing, solving and using quadratic
equations. Students will experience mathematics as a coherent, useful and logical subject that makes us of
their ability to make sense of problem situations.

Tes9s&;ui<<es* .uizzes will be given periodically throughout the semester and will be announced beforehand.
Tests will be also be given throughout the semester, students will be given ample time to complete tests.
Class=or!&+ro>ec9s* Students will have classwork on a daily basis and are expected to complete all classwork.
There will be one project during the course and students will be given time during class to help complete the
project.
+ar9icipa9ion: There will be a large amount of group work in this class. Students are expected to participate
daily. The best way to learn mathematics is to be able to explain it to your peers and teacher. 'articipation
within groups is crucial.
Home=or!: &omework will be given on a weekly basis unless otherwise specified. 5f homework is not turned
in by the due date than the student will receive a 201.
+roblem o: 9he ?ee!: 6ach "onday students will be given a problem of the week that is to be completed and
turned in .E7(RE class on 7riday. These problems of the week are designed to challenge the student and may
take a lot of thought in order to complete.

!ell phones, i'ods or any other electronic device is not permitted in the classroom unless otherwise
specified. $t the time where cell phone use is allowed, the usage of the cell phone is to be (,0@ for
academic use.
The teacher will decide when class ends. 8ust because the bell has rung does not mean you can leave
class without permission. 9o not pack up belongings before the teacher is done the lesson
There will be no eating or drinking in the classroom
The desktop computers are to be used for academic use only. 5f they are not being used for academic
use then the privilege will be taken away
+athroom passes should not be abused. Therefore, each student will have two bathroom passes a week.
