A Absences-Excessive absences hinder a childs progress. If your child is absent, you must send a note to the school when he/she returns. Please include your childs name, date of absence, and the reason for the absence. These notes are ept in the students portfolio in the classroom. Attendance-!egular school attendance is essential for your child to mae the most of his/her education. Please mae every effort to have your child at school everyday. Alphabet Knowledge-"e will learn the letters of the alphabet and the sounds that the letters mae. I will do an alphabet nowledge assessment on your child every nine wees until they are mastered. Assessment-"e use several instruments to assess students in #indergarten. $ny sills that need to be reinforced will be summari%ed for you on your childs report card or in an email. Arrival-&our child should enter the building and proceed to the cafeteria. They will be monitored by an adult until escorted to the classroom.
B Birthdays-'irthdays are very important to children. If you would lie to bring treats for the class on your childs birthday, please mae sure that they are store-bought. "e will pass them out during our lunchtime for the children to en(oy. Backpacks- Please chec your childs bacpac )$I*&. This website allows for instant updates on your childs behavior. Please chec it daily to monitor your childs progress throughout the wee.
C Clothing-Please dress your child in comfortable clothing that is appropriate for indergarten. "e will be doing plenty of messy things in indergarten so please do not send your child to school in clothing that is irreplaceable. It is a good idea to label all coats and sweaters. Conferences-I will be scheduling several conferences throughout the school year. If you feel the need to contact me at any time, please send a note in the tae home folder, or call the school office . Please note that calls will not be transferred to the classroom if it is instructional time. Contact- &ou can contact me by phone or by email at Tinia.'ills/eu.dodea.edu. I prefer email but please now that I will not be able to chec it very often during the school day. I will usually chec it once in the morning and again prior to the children being dismissed for the day. Computers-"e have six computers in our classroom. . &our child will be taught the proper way to use a computer and then be taught to use the educational software in our classroom. &our child will have many opportunities to use the computer in #indergarten.
D Dismissal-)ismissal for indergarten is around 0123 p.m. This is a few minutes before the official dismissal. This allows me time to get the indergarten students on the bus before the older children come out. Please do not come into the classroom to pic your child up. I will wal your child out of the indergarten classroom and hand them off to you at the end of the hall. If your child is riding the bus I will mae sure that he or she gets on the correct bus. If your childs transportation should change, I need a phone call, or written confirmation before 0144 during the school day.
E Emergency Contact Information- Please provide me with emergency contact numbers. If these numbers should change during the school year please send me an email to let me now. $t least two woring phone numbers are re5uired in order to contact parents in case of illness or emergency.
F Field Trips-"e tae several field trips throughout the school year. Permission forms will be sent home with your student, detailing the nature of the trip. &ou are welcome to accompany us on field trips. Please note that siblings are not allowed to attend the field trip if you are a chaperone. Fire Drills-&our child will participate in fre5uent fire drills throughout the year. "e will practice the procedures before our first fire drill so that your child will be prepared.
G Guidance-6ur school counselor will conduct classroom guidance periodically or as needed.
H Homework-&our child will have homewor. Please chec the tae home folder for the monthly homewor pacet. Handwriting-"e use traditional manuscript writing at $nara Elementary 7chool.
I Immuniations-$ll students must be immuni%ed against certain diseases or must present a statement that the student should not be immuni%ed. Proof of immuni%ations must be presented to the school within 84 days of enrollment. Illness-Please do not send your child to school if he/she has a temperature. If your child becomes ill at school, you will be called to come and get your child. "e need at least two woring phone numbers at all times in order to contact you in case of illness or emergency.
J Journal !riting-"e spend a lot of time writing in indergarten. 9ournal writing is a process that can begin with scribbles. &ou should see a great deal of growth in your childs writing throughout the year. It will help to have writing time at home, so your child can reinforce sills learned at school.
K Kindergarten Kids-#indergarten is a special time for your child. &ou were your childs first teacher, but we want them to feel safe, cared for, and excited about learning. "e want to mae this experience the best possible for every child. :#ids come first.;
L "ibrary-"e have a scheduled library time every wee. #indergarten students are responsible for bringing their boos bac on time. Please mae sure your child puts the boo bac in his/her boo bag after you have read it with him/her. "unch-&ou are welcome to come and eat with your child or bring a lunch to him/her. Please sign in at the office prior to going to the cafeteria. "earning Centers-"e use assigned learning centers in the classroom during our literacy bloc. "e also have time during the day for free centers, which allows the students the opportunity to play in centers of their choosing.
M #ath skills-"e use a lot of hands-on activities in our math curriculum. The sills that will be taught will be given to you via a newsletter so that the sills can be reinforced at home as well.
N Newsletter- $ monthly newsletter will be available on the class website. It will contain information about our thematic units, classroom activities, announcements, and upcoming school events. Notes-*oo for notes from the office and from me to come home in your childs tae home folder.
O $utside-&our child will have outside time daily, weather permitting. Please dress your child appropriately for the weather.

Report Cards-"e are on a nine-wee grading period. 'eginning the second 5uarter, your child will receive a report card every nine wees. I will schedule a conference to discuss your childs strengths and weanesses, if needed. "e have designated bathroom times throughout the day, so children are not permitted to go during instruction on the carpet or rest time, unless they have a severe emergency. Rest Time-&our child will have a rest time after lunch. Ae or she is not re5uired to sleep, but it is a 5uiet time in the classroom. The lights are turned off and all students will be expected to rest 5uietly. !est time will be gradually phased out and will discontinue after the Bhristmas brea.
S &afety-&our childs safety is top priority. "e tae every precaution when your child is in our care. Please now that any classroom regulations that we have are in the best interest of your child. &ight !ords-There are over ?4 basic sight words that students are re5uired to now before leaving indergarten. &ou will be given a copy of the words so that your child can practice them at home. &nacks* "e will have snac time every day in indergarten. Please send in a small healthy snac with your child. Please do C6T send candy, candy bars etc. for a snac. &upplies- Please label all supplies with your childs name. Each student will be responsible for their own supplies. &ou will be notified throughout the school year when your child is in need of additional supplies.
T Tardies-7tudents late to school ,after D183 a.m.- are considered tardy. $ll students who are tardy must be taen to the elementary main office to be signed in by a parent before being escorted to the indergarten classroom. I eep a record of these tardies and will document them on your childs report card. Toys-Toys from home are not allowed in class.
U ,nits and Themes-"e will study many units and themes throughout the year, and I will include that information in the monthly newsletter.
V -isitors-Please schedule all classroom visits with me prior to the day you would lie to visit. $dditional adults in the classroom sometimes cause distractions and it is important that we eep learning as the focus. Please mae sure that you sign in at the office before you come to the classroom. I will be looing for your badge when you enter the classroom. -olunteers-"e will sometimes need volunteers.
