Science 6 WebQuest

INTRODUCTION

Endocrine System is made up of different glands that secretes hormones directly to the blood
rather than a duct. Hormones are chemical messengers that have target organs.. The WebQuest
experience will take you on a journey through one of the important body system- the ENDOCRINE
SYSTEM. You will discover how these different glands maintain homeostasis inside our body.

TASK

Make use of your groupings last meeting during our science activity. Your team will work
together to gather important facts and information about the different glands and the
hormones they secrete. Topics assigned to each group are listed below.
You will accomplish this by visiting several websites and interacting with information in different
ways like books.
As you complete your individual tasks, you will use your interactive notebook to record and
organize what you have learned. Your team goal is to put all those facts together in an organized
and creative way to design a PowerPoint Presentation you will share with the class. Group
outputs will be saved in a CD or in flash drive to be passed on September 2, 2014. First 2 groups
will present on September 2, other two groups will be on September 4.

Group 1: Pituitary, Hypothalamus and Pineal Glands
Group 2: Parathyroid and Thyroid Gland
Group 3: Thymus and Pancreatic Gland
Group 4: Adrenal Glands and Gonads
Have a fun and get busy!

PROCESS

You will begin the journey inside the human body particularly the Endocrine System by working
individually but your final product will be group PowerPoint presentation. Communicate with your team
throughout all activities so your project will be easy to complete as a polished output. You will be
evaluated by your group mates afterwards.
1. Each member of the group should have a specific task to do to complete the first part of the of
this assignment. Your first goal is to decide whos doing what! Write them down in your science
interactive notebook each gland you are required to learn about.
2. Your next task is to explore websites to learn about your assigned glands. As you interact with
these websites, do the following:
- Take notes and gather information about the function and location of each gland, the
hormones produced and function, also the effect of hyposecretion and hypersecretion.
- At least 2 new interesting facts you learned about each gland while doing your research,
individually written in the interactive notebook.
- Save some images or video clips you may want to include in your PowerPoint project.
Images or video clips should be of the diseases caused by hyposecretion and hypersecretion
of hormones.
- Keep track of where you are getting your information. You may choose atleast 3 of the
websites listed under resources. DONT USE WIKIPEDIA.ORG

TOTAL

CONCLUSION
Just like a finely-tuned machine, our body functions with precision. All glands of our endocrine
system work to keep our body regulated or balanced. When one hormone is either undergoing
hyposecretion or hypersecretion, it will affect the whole body and will cause abnormalities and diseases.

Reflect on what you have learned and observed during this WebQuest lesson. Did you learn any
facts that make you more aware of the choices you make everyday relating to your health?
I hope you found this journey interesting and informal. Thank you for your hard-work and
collaboration.
