Grade Policy

Participation (50%)
Music is a performance based, process-oriented subject. In order to be successful in this
course, it is essential that students fully participate in the process of our daily learning.
Participation points are deducted for non-participation, disruptive behavior
(including talking excessively, disrespecting another student, teacher and/or
property) unexcused tardiness, unexcused absence, and/or unpreparedness.
Students may earn additional participation points for demonstrating exceptional
effort.

Performances (20%)
Your performance grade includes your attendance for the full duration of the
performance as well as your preparedness, timely arrival, and concert behavior. All
performances are mandatory and it is required that you be on stage at the designated
warm up time. Only in extreme circumstances will a student be excused from a
performance, and those students will be required to do a written assignment in its
place. Students are responsible for getting this make up work on their own. Doctors
appointments, work, sports team obligations and vacations are not valid excuses.

Written Assignments and Projects (30%)
Students will complete written assignments and projects that develop their
comprehensive understanding of music.
