Welcome to sixth grade Language Arts! I am looking forward to an exciting, productive,
and successful school year! To achieve success, you must come to class each day
ready to be an active participant. This year we will improve your communication skills
through reading, writing, and study of the English language. You will master various
writing styles, grammar skills, and oral presentations.

Class Rules
Respect yourself and others
Arrive on-time, in your seat when
the bell rings

Lockers
Students are allowed to go to their lockers twice each day: once in the morning 8:45-
8:55 and once in the afternoon 2:15-2:18. This is a school-wide policy. Lockers cost $3.00;
this includes a hall and gym locker.
Entering & Exiting the Classroom
When entering the room, enter quietly and immediately begin your bell work. Please
remain in your seats until the bell rings and the teacher dismisses you.
Food & Drinks
Food (including gum) & drinks are not permitted in the classroom. You may have a
bottle of water as long as it completely closes.
Class Participation
Participation is important in class however, during class discussions you must raise your
hand and wait to be called on. During small groups, each student must be given time
to speak. Respect is mandatory when speaking to anyone.

Assignments
All assignments must be labeled with name, date, class period, and assignment name.
All assignments must be completed in blue/black ink or pencil. When using ink, cross
one line through any mistakes.
Early Finishers
If you complete your assignment early, choose a book to read or complete other work
quietly at your seat. Do not disturb others who are still working.
Technology
Cell phones are not permitted in the classroom.
Once iPads are distributed, we will use them frequently. However, iPads will only be
used for learning experiences.
Class Website
Our class has a website where you can find a copy of the
syllabus, an assignment calendar, and other resources. I will
update the site throughout the year to provide up-to-date
information.
