We synergize because
together is better!
As kindergarten Partial-Immersion teachers, our mission
is to collaborate with each other, with our students, and
with our families to help children grow as readers, writers,
communicators, thinkers, historians, scientists,
mathematicians, and SCOUTs this year. We strive to build
on each childs strengths, to encourage them to overcome
challenges, and to help them learn and use the Seven
Habits to achieve their goals and make great choices.

About the Spanish Classroom
Your children learn Science, Math, and Spanish language and
literacy with Sra. Quave. Students receive 50% of their
classroom instruction in Spanish. Science and Math are taught
and assessed in Spanish.
Spanish is the language of instruction and communication in
the Spanish classroom. Students speak Spanish at all times
when with Sra. Quave. Please encourage your child to do so.
The Spanish teachers in the program speak only Spanish in the
presence of children.
Families may volunteer to work with children in the classroom
where they speak the language of instruction. Families may
help in either classroom by making copies and creating
materials for the teachers.

Spanish Homework
Parents do NOT have to be able to speak Spanish in order to help
their children be successful in this program.
You can help your child succeed in the Spanish classroom by
reading books to them in the home language about the topics
we are studying. The Spanish teacher will be concerned with
the language acquisition.

**At home, children are practicing the old,
not learning the new.

on sounds and
familiar patterns.
-Should not be
discouraged by the
irregular spelling
patterns common in
English.
Kindergarten

-Learn to express
themselves, tell
stories, state
opinions, and share
through writing.
-Need to be
encouraged no
matter where they
begin!
Kindergarten
readers
-Learn a variety of
strategies to help
with decoding and
comprehension.
-Must listen to
reading, share in
reading, and engage
with stories.
English Homework

Agendas Please sign daily, and we will, too.
Travel Folders
Go home Tuesdays
Left side: for parents to send items and notes to school
Right Side: for teachers to send home notes and important papers
Newsletters and other important information:
Phone calls 821-1400
Emails: gquave@lexington1.net & dglatz@lexington1.net Please copy both
teachers on all communications to help us synergize.
Conferences We will have student-led conferences in the fall. We do joint
conferences because together is better.

We do random SCOUT Salutes to let you know when your child is being a SCOUT, using the 7 Habits,
or doing well academically. We may call to share a SCOUT salute or send a written note that you can
place on the refrigerator to celebrate. If we are sending a written SCOUT Salute, we will attach it to
the agenda with a note that says, SCOUT Salute.
We may send a written reminder if your child needs to practice a SCOUT expectation. We will attach
the expectation to the agenda with a note that says, SCOUT reminder.
Parents can
Establish a routine that includes getting homework done, time to
sharpen the saw, a healthy diet, and an early bedtime. We
recommend 8:00.
Foster independence: Remind your children to make their lunch
choice, take care of their belongings, turn in important papers.
Have them walk themselves to class and begin their morning
routines.
Be on time: children need to enter the classroom by 7:25. They
need time to get ready for their day and be ready to begin
learning promptly at 7:35.
High expectations: SCOUT behaviors, 7 Habits, communicating the
importance of school and following expectations, modeling
expected behaviors and good academic habits, such as reading for
enjoyment and curiosity.
Reminders
Water bottles and lunch box drinks

Change of clothing in backpack

Literacy pouches contract
