minutes.Occasionally,atopicorskillrequiresextrapractice,orthereisenoughinterestinthe
subjecttowarrantassignedhomework.Intheseinstances,Iwilldesignandassignhomework,
buttobeclear,Iwillonlyassignhomework(besidesthe20minutesofchoicereading)ifitis
clearlybeneficial.

Introduction
Effectiveclassroommanagementisessentialtoasuccessfulyear.Thishandbookismy
promisetoyouthatIwillbuildasafelearningenvironment.Byclearlystatingourexpectations
andcommitmentsaswellasgettingclearonhowwewilloperateintheclassroom,weare
agreeingtotreateachotherandourspacewithrespect.Pleasetakesometimetoreviewthe
classroomstandards,procedures,andconsequences.Thefollowinginformationwillhelpguide
ustowardafunandsuccessfulyear.

Procedures
Asyoucanimagine,therearemanyproceduresnecessarytomakeaclassroomrunefficiently.
Anassumptionoftenmadeisthatstudentsknowwhattheteacherknowsandwhattheteacher
wouldlikethemtodo.IwilldomybestnottomakesuchassumptionsandIwillteach
proceduressuchashowtoentertheclassroom,howtotransitionbetweenactivities,or
anythingelsethatrequiresamodeofoperation.Asuccessfulclassroomhasroutinesand
procedureswhichgiveorganizationandstructuretolearning.Itisimportanttounderstandthese
proceduresclearlyinordertomaintainourhighstandardsinourclassroom.

AssignmentNotebook
Therearetwodesignatedtimesforfillingoutyourassignmentnotebookinthemorningandin
theafternoon,butfeelfreetoaddtoitatanypointinthedayifnecessaryasthingscanchange.
Entriesincludedailyobjectives,assignments,homework,ornotes.

TakeHomeFolder
Itiseachstudentsresponsibilitytogathertheappropriatematerialsfortheirfolder.Insidethe
folder,yourchildmayhavecorrectedassignments,class/schoolannouncements,orschool
information.Pleasecheckthisfolderdailywithyourchild.

TransportationChanges
Alltransportationchangesmustgothroughthefrontoffice.Ifyourchildisbeingpickedupforthe
dayanotemustbesenttometoinformmeofthisarrangement.Ifnonoticeofthis
transportationisgiven,Iwillstickwiththepriorarrangementsyourchildhasbeenreceiving.

ClassroomJobs
JobsrotateonaweeklybasisandwillbenotedonthechartlabelledClassJobs.Ifyouare
assignedajobonMonday(shortenedweekswillnotberotated),seethepersonwhodidthejob
priorandandaskhimorherforthejobdescriptioncardaskhimorherhowtoperformyournew
dutiesandforhelponthefirstdayifneeded.Fortherestoftheweek,thisjobisyour
responsibilityremembertodoyourjob.Belowisthelistoftheclassroomjobsandabrief
descriptionofduties:
