Nature, Science and Art is a course aimed at developing the artists eye for structural design and aesthetics. Using nature as a study, students will examine relationships while learning how to creatively express personal perspectives. Art theory, production and history will be woven into meaningful activities that are designed to help the young artist identify his/herself as an artist.
EVALUATION/GRADING Each lesson will have specific objectives, and grades will be determined by the degree that each objective is reached. Student effort on coursework will be considered. The students participation in helping to maintain the art studio as a productive learning environment will count as one project grade. Letter grades will be used and averaged using the 4.0 scale.
MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES Students are required to have: a. spiral, 9x12 sketchbook b. ________________________________________
c.________________________________________ MAKE-UP WORK It is the students responsibility to request and begin make-up work within three days of an excused absence. Students may use the art room any time during the day and/or after school when pre-arranged with the teacher. The due date for work will vary according to project complexity.
STUDENT CONDUCT Students are expected to adhere to the Honor Code and to show respect for others at all times. Art supplies should be properly cared for and handled safely. A disregard for such considerations may be reflected in the students participation grade.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES The art studio will be maintained by all students. Each artist is responsible for room organization, project preps and clean-up. Students are encouraged to participate in class discussions, to make frequent entries in their sketchbooks, and to take personal initiative to explore and create. Each of these factors will be reflected in the students participation grade.
SPECIAL PROJECTS/ASSIGNMENTS Students may be asked to bring in supplementary material (i.e. magazines, scrap fabric, photographs, etc.) so that unique and personal art works can be created.
EXTRA CREDIT Extra credit opportunities are not offered. For extra work time, the student may visit the art studio when the teacher is available.
HOMEWORK Students will rarely be assigned homework. However, if the student is behind on class projects, unfinished art work may need to be completed at home.
