In this project we will be discussing the topic of identity and learning about how others in
our lives influence us. In humanities we will be reading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton while
we explore themes of identity, belonging, and the important role of family. In
math/science we will we studying our unique learning styles as well as learning about the
human brain.
Essential Questions:
Who am I and what makes me unique?
How does my cultural background and family history influence my identity?
What people in my life impact me the most?
Why is it important to belong to a group?
How can understanding my personal learning style help me as a learner?
How can understanding how the brain works help me understand myself?

The structure and Function of the Brain
What you will be creating:
Your own personal coat of arms that represents who you are as a unique individual
A dialectical journal that consists of 12 different entries for each chapter in the
book
Narrative writing piece on the topic of identity
Your own personal learning portfolio
A model of the brain
A lesson teaching one aspect of the brain
