BIOCHEMISTRY

S.Y. 2014-2015
COURSE OVERVIEW
COURSE TITLE: Introduction to Biochemistry
COURSE CODE: AHS 1003
CREDIT HOURS: 3 Credit Hours
PLACEMENT: Year 1 Semester 1

PRE-REQUISITE
COURSE:
Successful Completion of
Foundation Program

CO-REQUISITE
COURSE:
Anatomy & Physiology 1

COURSE
DESCRIPTION
This is one semester course has been designed to fulfill
the curricular needs of Baccalaureate degree of nursing.
It will introduce students with essential knowledge of
biochemistry. Especially for the students of nursing
departments, this will emphasize the link between
biochemistry and medical sciences. The course is
designed to focus on the core issues related to
pathophysiology, pharmacology and clinical application.

COURSE
DESCRIPTION
Further, the students are given opportunity to visit
biochemistry laboratory to get orientation with the
functions of laboratory procedures. Students are
encouraged to think critically and go for online
videos and animations to make further
understanding of the subject and consolidate
learning.
LEARNING
OUTCOMES
1. Explain the structure and functions of cell
membrane.
2. Demonstrate understandings of Acid-Base balance
and electrolytes.
3. Explain the composition and metabolism of
carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, and protein.
LEARNING
OUTCOMES
4. Demonstrate understanding of term enzymes
5. Describe the properties and functions of
enzyme
6. Describe composition of vitamins and mineral
metabolism
Is the Science concerned with the
chemical basis of life. It aims to seek the
two fundamental phenomena of nature:
how do we grow?
where do we get our energy?
BIOCHEMISTRY
