For some hot spot in 3G network, the date traffic from some Node B is
up to 100M, and it would be 1G from eNode B in LTE era. In that
case, the SDH or PTN can not afford enough capacity for mobile
backhaul.

When we upgrade 2G to 3G, 1 new 3G Node B
is added. The footprint and the rent is double
times than before.
We divide the Node B into 2 parts: BBU & RRU.
Thats what we call it distributed Node B. To
put the BBU into the existing 2G BTS rack, and
put the RRU onto the pole which the antenna
mounts. The interface between the BBU and
RRU is CPRI. No new footprint and rent are
added.

3 By CPRI over OTN solution, the RRU & 1800
are pole- or wall-mount, and many BBUs are
centralized in a consolidated CO far away from
the antenna for a centralized OAM. 80% of the
footprint and the rent is saved.
