Sketchbook Journal Guidelines

Drawing in a sketchbook is similar to writing in a journal. It becomes a daily record of your thoughts and ideas achieved through a
visual format. The concept of maintaining a sketchbook is something that should become a regular habit for all visual artists. The
end result is that you will create a valuable resource of ideas that can be used as inspiration for your work.
The goal of the sketchbook is to enhance your drawing experience. The majority of assignments will be observational drawings. In
addition, there will also be imaginative pieces that will challenge your ability to think creatively.
Sketchbook Guidelines :
. DRAWINGS ARE DUE EACH THURSDAY !owever, this may be change from time to time due to vacations or changes in
the school calendar. These dates are in bold and italici"ed as well as being marked with an asterisk.
#. $ou will be given duplicating paper that is to be stored in a folder. %urchased sketchbooks are optional and should be no
smaller than &' x (' or larger than )' x #'.
*. +ssignments should be completed in the designated order, do not skip around. The pieces have been developed se,uentially
and aligned with work that is being completed in class.
-. .omplete the drawings using the appropriate techni,ue and medium. /or example, if the assignment instructs you to use a
contour line drawing, then the results should demonstrate the use of this method. Detailed dra!in"s should include shading.
&. The drawings should be completed by observing the subject that has been assigned. DO NOT DRAW FROM
PHOTOGRAPHS unless otherwise indicated.

2 3n the back of each drawing you should include 2 the number of the assignment, the title of the piece and the due date.
2 3n the front of the drawing you will be re,uired to include written notations. The written notations may be an artist4s ,uote,
inspirational phrases or your thoughts while working on the sketch.

Sketchbook assi"n#ents $ in order to receive full credit 56 points7 for each drawing you must:
a. draw the correct subject e. include written notations on the front of the drawing and
