WHAT IS CONSIDERED A
COMMUNITY?
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
Each year, 7 of 10 deaths among Americans are
attributable to chronic disease, which are often
preventable.
As of 2012, 67.8% of Oklahomas adult population is
either overweight (35.6%) or obese (32.2%).
In 2013, 85.9% of high school youth surveyed, stated that
they have not had at least 60 minutes of physical activity in
the last 7 days.
According to the 2013 BRFFS data, 23.7% of Oklahomans
over the age of 18 smoke.
In 2013, almost 8% of Oklahomas tobacco retailers sold
tobacco products to youth.
CERTIFIED HEALTHY COMMUNITY
Voluntary certification program signed into law in 2010
Launched in 2011
Complements six other Certified Healthy programs:
businesses, campuses, early childhood programs,
congregations, restaurants, and schools
Recognizes communities for their outstanding efforts and
achievements in actively creating communities that are a
healthy place to live, work, learn, and play.
