MathWe have started Topic # 3 which is multplying numbers.

We will be talking about math propertes like the Commutatve


and Associatve Propertes. We also will be learning about ex-
ponents. Please note that extra credit is ofered at the begin-
ning of each topic.
Reading Next week our story is Ten Mile Day. Before the
1860s, no railway ran all the way across the United States.
However, in 1862 Congress began the task of joining the West
coast with the East coast. The skill this week is Cause & Efect.
GrammarThis week in grammar we learned about acton
and linking verbs. Next week we will learn about main and
helping verbs.
Writng We have used our peers to help us edited our Tall
Tales. We have been stressing on hooking the reader. That is
getng the reader interested in what you are writng about.
Spelling Our list focuses on contractons this week. Please
practce your words. You can access the words at

Social Studies We have completed our frst unit of study and
taken the geography test. We are studying the Early Ameri-
cans and fnding that there are three theories as to how they
arrived in the Americas.
Science We reviewed the Scientfc Method and partcipated
in a controlled ball experiment. Next, we will be studying the
tools that scientst use.

In an efort to make learning fun the 5th grade teachers will be celebratng September
19th which is Natonal Talk Like a Pirate Day. On this day students are encouraged to dress
like a pirate. We will be having many fun actvites that go along with our pirate theme.
Dont worry! All the actvites are stll educatonally focused.

Progress reports went home yesterday. Please sign the envelope and return to school.
Please note the grades change constantly. You may access your childs harmony account to
get the most recent informaton possible. If you have lost the harmony logins, contact the
front ofce and they will be able to get that informaton for you.
