Setting where the story takes place and the time in which it takes place It sets the
where and when for the scene

Plot is the action, what is happening, the series of events
It is the organized pattern or sequence of events that make up a story

Exposition: the part of the story that introduces important background
information: for example the setting, the events that happened before the
story begins, the characters back story
Rising action: a series of conflicts that build toward the point of greatest
interest (climax), the building suspense
Climax: the turning point of the story, highest intensity or drama
Falling action: occurs after the climax and the conflict is resolved.
Resolution/denouement: (pronounced: day- new- maw) the final closing
and clarification of a dramatic or narrative plot

Characters: the people in the story who carry out the events

Conflict: the struggle in the plot, it creates the drama

Theme: the main idea, topic, and central belief of the story. It can be abstract (an
idea or concept like friendship)
