BACK TO THE

FUTURE
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

TO KNOW THAT WE DESIGN THINGS FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES AND USERS
TO EVALUATE PRODUCTS AND IDENTIY IDEAS TO USE IN OUR OWN WORK
TO MAKE LABELLED DIAGRAMS FROM DIFFERENT VIEWS SHOWING SPECIFIC FEATURES
DESIGN BRIEF
YOUR TASK IS TO DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT A PROTOTYPE OF HOLY NAME
SCHOOL FOR THE YEAR 2089
Student Name:

Grade:

Investigating:

Analysing the
situation

Considerations
What are some things
that have changed at
Holy Name school
over time? What will
be important in a
school of the future?
Think about
technology, space,
enrolments etc.
We think that the most important things going into the future is sustainable
clean energy and more rooms and space to accommodate a students every
need. These are some ideas for a greener and better school for the future:

-Science/technology building with algae walls to absorb heat and insulate
-Special needs school
-Bridge over the road for special needs school connecting to school
-Track and Field
-Aquatic centre
-Indoor netball and basket
ball courts
-Soccer and football fields
-Private balcony for staff room
- Language studies room for learning all languages
-solar sunlight discs to insulate and create energy
-Gymnasium/hall
- Resource Room for projects for students and teachers
-Printer room including 3D printers able to print with any material
[Plastic, metal, etc.]
-First aid room to cure any sickness a child has
of the school
-3D simulation hologram/classroom for an internationally related classroom and
to learn more about different parts of the world
-Cafeteria including medicines for separate children
-A proper garden and observation habitat for kids to learn how to look after the
environment
-Independent and calibrated learning to suit every learning style
- Car park or flying park

Write a brief
Write a short
statement giving the
general outline of the
problem to be solved.

Buy the three houses behind the basketball courts, the houses across the road
on Robb St and the houses across the road on McColl St to make way for new
buildings and, or gardens or fields.

Research the
problem
Think about ways in
which your
considerations can
be
solved/accommodated
for. E.g. If you
decide that your
school needs space
for increasing
numbers, what are
some ways in which
you can create space?
-In order to create this new school the old school would have to be
demolished and then built on
-Algae will be inside the walls of the science/technology building to
insulate sun rays in summer and the cold chill in winter.
-The solar discs will be on three sides of the main building so you can
manage hot and cold air and generate renewable energy at the same
time
-

Designing:

Write a
specification
This detailed
description of
the problem
spells out what
the design must
achieve and what
limitations will
affect the final
solution.

Work out
possible
solutions
Combine the
ideas from
your
investigation

to suggest
several
possible design
solutions.
Sketch several
possibilities on
paper.

Select a preferred solution

Producing:

Prepare
working
drawings and
construct a
prototype.
Draw, to scale,
detailed plans
of your new
school.

Question 4:

Modifying:
List and justify any modifications that you have made.

Write a Report:
Write a report that explains the process you followed to complete your
future school design. Reflect upon all the stages in the process and
justify your work. Discuss the investigating, planning, designing,
evaluating and modifying of your design.
