CHINESE AS FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEVEL 2 (CFL2)

CFL2 Course Outline

This level 2 Chinese course is designed for students who have completed our CFL1 course or equivalent.
The course covers age appropriate topics for young students, including family and jobs, location of rooms
and furniture, park, zoo and zoo animals, physical discomfort, shopping and ordering food in restaurants.
Students will continue to build up their ability in speaking everyday conversations, applying sentence
structures, reading, and learning more theme related Chinese culture tailored to young learners
interests.

Course Schedule

Session 1 (15 weeks): 09/18/14 ~ 01/22/15, Thursdays, 3:30 ~ 5:00 PM
Session 2 (15 weeks): 01/29/15 ~ 05/21/15, Thursdays, 3:30 ~ 5:00 PM

Course Material

The course adopts the textbook Chinese Wonderland Vol. 2. The book is written by Mandarin Language
and Cultural Center and published by Taiwan Knowledge Bank. The book consists of six units that
organize prelude and eleven lessons. The content includes lesson introduction, dialogues, vocabulary,
sentence structures, classroom expressions, reading, stroke order, culture notes, communicative and
task based activities, and Picture This.

Each student will have the following material.
A textbook and an audio CD - can be taken home for daily practices
A set of phrase flash cards for use in the class - will be taken home to practice
Workbooks for work in the class and at home

Course Objectives

The course is designed to learn all eleven lessons of Chinese Wonderland Vol. 2 in thirty weeks. Each
lesson will take two weeks with one and half hours per week. The course will teach students to:
talk in simple sentences about the covered topics
speak and use 137 phrases and 73 sentence patterns
read 14 pieces of writing ranging 60 to 90 words
recognize and/or read 137 phrases
write 70 Chinese characters
listen and understand 12 classroom expressions
acquire knowledge about Chinese culture related to the covered topics, such as Confucius and private
school in ancient China, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese courtyard, Feng Shui and Chinese garden, Hua
Tuo and Chinese medicine, traditional Chinese markets, special fruits: apples & pineapples and round
tables to Chinese, etc. Enjoy Learning Chinese!
