Pakistani Culture
The official name of the nation is the Islamic Republic of Pakistan,
however ever since 1971, it has been referred to simply as Pakistan.
Pakistan was created in 1947 as a separate Islamic state. However, even
though 96 percent of the population is said to be Muslim, there are other
minorities that exist in the country. .
A variety of languages are spoken throughout the nation. However, Urdu
is Pakistan's official language.
The Pakistani Rupee is the countries official currency.
The capital of the country was Karachi until 1960. From 1960 to 1967 the
capital was temporarily Rawalpindi, however in 1967 the capital of
Pakistan was changed to Islamabad.
Since the majority of the population is Muslim, Pakistani culture obligates
you to fast during Ramzan and refrain from eating pork and

Pakistani administration
The government of Pakistan consists of an elected prime
minister, a president, and a Parliament that consists of the
Senate (Upper House) and the National Assembly (Lower
House).
The prime minister is the head of government, and the
president, who is elected by the legislature, is the head of
state. There are also ministers in charge of government
divisions such as education and tourism. These are appointed
by the prime minister.

The greatest social problem in Pakistan is drug use. Both
governmental and non-governmental programs were set up to
help control this effort.
Pakistan consists of several provinces, including Punjab, Sind,
North-West Frontier, Baluchistan, and the Federally
Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).



Pakistani Religion
Pakistan was formed as an Islamic nation, and Islam
continues to be the religion of approximately 96 percent of
the population.
Muslims make up the majority of the nation (96.4%). 90%
of the Muslims are considered to be Sunni and the
remaining 10% are said o be Shia.
Other religions also exist in small minorities. 3.6% of the
remaining people in Pakistan are either Christian, Hindu,
Sikh or Buddhist.
Since most of the population is Muslim, the population is
obliged to keep fasts during the month of Ramzan and
must also refrain from eating pork


Architecture
The capital city of Islamabad features modern architecture
since it was established in 1967. Islamabad is home to
the Shah Faisal Mosque which is used for prayer.
Many sports complexes and galleries are also scattered
throughout the country.
A new trend of huge malls has been diffused into the
country as well. New architecture in Pakistan has lots of
influences from the West.
Other architectural feats such as the Lahore fort and the
Minar-e-Pakistan exist and Lahore and are very highly
regarded.
Trade
Pakistan's major exports include cotton, textile goods,
rice, leather items, carpets, sports goods, fruit, and
handicrafts.
Major imports include industrial equipment, vehicles, iron
ore, petroleum, and edible oil.
Trade partners include the United States, Hong Kong,
Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United
Arab Emirates.

Commerce/Economy
Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad are the center of
business, trade and commerce.
Pakistan is a poor country and its economic outlook is
bleak. It relies heavily on foreign loans and grants, and
debt obligations take nearly 50 percent of the
government's expenditures.
The average per capita income per person in Pakistan is
estimated at $460 (U.S.). A large number of Pakistanis,
estimated at 35 percent, live below the poverty line.
The economy is predominantly agricultural and has a
growing industry.
