4B Family Newsletter for September 12

th

Dear Families,
Well, it has been another fun and busy week in 4B! This is a wonderful group of students, and
I am thoroughly enjoying being with them! Here is what is coming up:
Reading: We will continue with our novels in our reading groups. This coming week we will also have the
DRA tests to test the reading level of each student to see how to best help each child. We will also be
working on Mighty Jackie, the second story in our text books.
Writing: We will be peer editing and revising our first stories. In grammar we will continue to look at
complete sentences and ending punctuation.
Math: This week we will work on rounding, estimating, and working with bar graphs. We will also be
learning additional multiplication games to help review multiplication facts.
Social Studies: Next week we will look at our family histories and cultures with the culture cubes we
created and the family trees and history we collected. We will also be starting our map unit.
Art: We will be finishing up the mosaics we started this week.
Grading Today I sent home the first graded assignments. In addition to the total of points, you will also
notice a E,M,Ap,or B. E stands for exceeds expectations. That means he or she is doing above what is
expected at this point in 4
th
grade. M means meets expectations. That means he or she is doing what
is expected at this point in 4
th
grade. AP means approaching expectations. That means that the
student is close to being where he or she should be at this point in 4
th
grade. B means below
expectations. This means he or she is below where they need to be in that area. These are also the
markings you will see on the report cards.
School Supplies The students and I went through the list of items that will allow them to fully
participate in all of the activities in our room. Please help them make sure they have all of these items in
class.
Hats and water It is still very hot out at school. With no air conditioning to help cool the students
down, it is very important they have plenty of water to drink. I would recommend at least 1.5 liters per
student per day, especially on sports days. Hats are also required to play during lunch, recess, and
sports. Please help your student to remember these important items!
Back to School Night! Next Wednesday, the 17
th
, is Back to School Night! Please join us! There will be a
short introduction and information about the school and then we will have time in the classroom to go
further into curriculum and expectations in 4
th
grade. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I
hope to see you next week!
Warmly, Annie Beck
