This will be the final lesson on this practical unit of soccer. Students will gain the fundamental knowledge of tactical thinking and strategies to improve their own game and their teams game and performance. This lesson will also be done outside on the oval so the students will get a sense of indoor and outdoor soccer. Students will compete in a soccer tournament.
Learning Objectives:
Students will be able to execute the skills required to shoot for goal. Students will understand the importance of team work and encouragement. Students will be able to use their knowledge and thinking to come up with tactical approaches and strategies. Students will understand how to play defensively and attackingly. Students will be able to use and demonstrate the skills and techniques they have learnt over the past few weeks during game situations. Students will be able to identify penalties.
Teaching Cues for Technical Demand:
Penalties: Occur when an opposing team player pushes, trips, holds, strikes, intentionally kicks or charges a player. A direct free is awarded to the opposition and is taken from where the penalty occurred. If the violation occurs in the offending teams penalty area, a free kick is taken 10 yards from the goal which only the goalie can defend.
Offside: A player is offside when he/she is nearer the opponents goal line than the ball is at the moment the ball is played unless, o The player is in his/her own half of the field or o At least 2 opponents are as near their own goal line as the player is A free kick is awarded to the opposing team at the spot where the offside occurred.
Resources:
Soccer Nets x 4 Cones x 20 Sashes x 15
Soccer Balls x 20 Whistle x 2 Outside Oval Essential Questions:
What are some penalties in soccer? When are you considered to be offside? Where is it hardest for the goal keeper to make a save? What are some defensive strategies you could use as a team to control the game or steal the ball? What are some attacking strategies you could use as a team to maintain control and possession of the ball? What are some tactical strategies you could use as a team to win the game?
Safety Considerations:
Active supervision from teacher Students must be aware of others when they are kicking the ball. Students will not trip, push or shove one another. Students need to kick the ball using the inside of their foot instead of their toes. Balls will not be kicked above shoulder height Students will need to wear appropriate footwear and clothing when participating.

The teacher will need to move about the class to assist students who may be struggling and require support and encouragement.
