Revise what was learnt last lesson: what did we look at?
Who can remember the type of bushfire hazards or things
that need to be taken care of to prepare for bushfire
season?
Explain that we are going to be creating an information
pamphlet to inform our school and the people that live
near the school about being prepared for bushfire season
and what to do in an emergency.
But first we need to look at some professional fire safety
pamphlets to show us what they need to look like and

Show the class one first and explain the features it has-
big words, eye catching, nice big pictures and plenty of
important information,
Pass each around to the class.

Lesson Body
Delivering
the content
through
specific
strategies
Go through the display board to provide students with a
starting point for gathering information to put into
pamphlets.
Ask students what the main topics are that we need to
tell people. Key questions- What impact do bushfires
have on the environment and people and how can we
reduce the impact? This can be your headings if you
wish.
Students then need to answer these questions using the
answers that we have nt he board and from what they
have learnt about bushfires.
Ensure students are covering all main parts- what
happens to the environment? How do people prepare for
the bushfire season? What do they do in case of an
emergency?
Allow time for students to type up their information
before decorating.

Give students a
starting idea not
something to copy
off.

Ensure students are
on task.

For students at
below level literacy,
assist them to come
up with simple
sentences or draw
diagrams.

Share pamphlets with the person sitting next to them.
Ask students to think of some things they liked about
each others work.

Reflection:
Have I given enough scaffolds for students to create an informative text?
Have I allocated enough time for the pamphlets to be completed and shared among the class?
