In the text
Hiccup had to blink a lot because the gaze of a
Dragon is hypnotic and gives the unnerving
feeling that it is sucking your soul away.
Meaning
If something is Hypnotic when you look at it, it
means it can put you to sleep.


In the story it says to stare into a dragons eyes is
almost hypnotic.

This could be one of their special abilities when
under attack to get their opponent to look them
in the eyes
Vanity

Gratitude used in the text
In the story, Hiccup uses a variety of methods to try
and get Toothless to respond to his commands. One
of these is using gratitude.

When he crosses it off the list, he writes
dragons are never grateful

He tried to make Toothless feel special by feeding
him with lots of special treats. Toothless had no
gratitude (appreciation) for what Hiccup was doing.

In the text
Vast Viking men sat uncomfortably on rocks
guffawing loudly like gigantic sea lions in

loud Viking voice and imagine them bursting out
with laughter.

You should never ever look into the eyes of a
large Malevolent dragon!!!
It means
Showing or wishing to do evil to others!!!!

The dragon had a malevolent look in its eyes. A
look so frightening it gave me shivers down my
spine.

Verb Groups

Are a group of words that describe action in

They explain what is happening in the text
They are made up of verbs, verb helpers and
adverbs
