can find the breakdown for what each part of the project will be worth as well as
when they are due.

Heroic Narrative Final (Friday) 25 points

Hero Criteria
Due: Monday

By now you have written a paper based off your own ideas of what defines a hero,
read several short stories about heroes and heroic events, and have had several
class discussions about heroism. While considering all of these things, come up with
at least five criteria that define the concept of hero. Make sure that your list is not
too broad and that it is well defined because you will be defending your list openly
with the rest of the class on Monday as we use each students individual list to
create an agreed upon list of criteria that defines what is a hero.

Grading Criteria/Requirements:
You will earn 2 points per criteria definition with a total of 10 possible points

Heroic Narrative
Due: Wenesday

Now it is time to write your own heroic short story! The only requirements for this
paper is that you use at least three of the agreed upon hero criteria from class when
writing about the hero character. Other than that there are no boundaries to what
type/genre of heroic story you tell. You can write about medieval knights or
futuristic soldiers as long as it is clear that you are sticking to the classroom hero
criteria.

Grading Criteria/Requirements:
This is a pass/fail assignment. You can earn a total of 5 points for simply
turning in the paper on time. However, keep in mind that while 5 points
doesnt seem like a lot, those that do not turn in the paper cannot partake in
the peer review portion of the project meaning that he or she will miss out on
15% of the overall grade for the project.

The paper should consist of the following:
1 page minimum 2 page maximum
12 point Times New Roman font double-spaced
Story clearly implements at least three of the hero criteria
Story contains a clear narrative that is easy to follow
Story is free of grammatical errors

Heroic Narrative Peer Review / Workshop

After swapping your story with another student, read their paper and fill out
the below worksheet. Before handing the sheet back to the author, make sure
to show the teacher the filled out sheet to earn your 10 points.

What was the story about?

What are the hero criteria the author used in the story?

What is something the story does well?

What is something that could be improved?

What is your favorite thing about the story?

What grammatical corrections could be made to the story?
